About Me

At the top of Sani Pass on the border between Lesotho and South Africa.

Welcome to Money Momentum! If you’re as passionate as I am about taking back your time and creating a lifestyle that can be managed from the comfort of your own home, you’ve come to the right place.

So, before you hear about me, why are you here? It’s highly likely that you’re looking to make a change in your life. There’s a lot of hype going around about the Laptop Lifestyle and making money from the internet. But is it actually possible to earn a living online? Can you actually be successful building a business on the internet? Will it enable you to kick the 9 to 5 and actually start living life on your own terms? Financial Freedom isn’t a fairy tale, it’s totally achievable with the right plan.

I have a phrase that I’m pretty sure I’ve coined, and it is: “I choose choice”.

What do I mean by that? I mean, I choose to decide how I spend my time; I choose to decide when I spend time with my family, when I go on holiday/vacation and most importantly, I choose when I want to work and when I want to play. Not a boss or a manager, not a corporate puppet master or “The Man”.

I spent many years working in the world of corporate finance and I’ll tell you one thing – the corporate world doesn’t do it for me. Never, not on a single day, did I wake up with excitement or anticipation for the day ahead… unless it was Saturday or Sunday (Sunday less so, which I’m sure we can all relate to).

Why was I doing this to myself?

The vast majority of us have been churned out of the production line of life v1.0. The same model of life that’s been carrying on for many, many years. We think that having a job is the only way to earn money. It’s so generic and cliched, but we all know of the term: “Go get a good job, save towards your pension and you’ll be able to retire when you’re too old to do most of the things you’ve always wanted to do”. OK, maybe that last part I added in myself, but I hope the point was made.

Traditional ways of working may be fine for some, but not all. And if you’re like me, I actually want to live my life and experience the many wonders it has to offer relatively soon, not in 20/30/40+ years (depending on your age)!

I’ve had many nicknames throughout my life; Gazza being a popular one, but my real name is Gareth, pleased to meet you!

I’ve always been passionate about aviation and most of my life I wanted to become a pilot. So I did the obvious, I became an accountant. Yeah right, but actually it’s the truth.

I had some hurdles thrown my way whilst pursuing the aviation career, and had to make some very serious life altering choices at a very young age, which honestly was a terrifying prospect. I’d have to relocate overseas away from my parents, family and friends, a new country and military environment and all while staring down the barrel of a 15 year service contract. And I had to make this decision at 17 years old.

Now some would say that if I was truly passionate about becoming a fighter pilot, I would’ve just gone ahead and done it. And that’s a fair statement; one I cannot argue against, especially after what I’ve done all my life. So maybe it wasn’t my pure driven desire, and more of being in love with the thought of being a fighter pilot. Needless to say, to this day, I still think about it and a part of me regrets not making the decision. But it’s a small part – as my life has taken a very different path and I’m very grateful for it.

Anyway, after cracking under the pressure and giving up on becoming a pilot, I went to university and qualified in accounting, then went on to becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA/ACA/CPA). This seemed like a very solid choice – stable, strong job demand and decent earnings. What’s not to like?

Well, the WORK.

I learned very early on in my working career that I really did not want to be in the corporate world. The 9-5, the rat race, call it what you will, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Having my time, responsibilities and my earnings dictated by someone else just didn’t sit well with me. Plus, I really wasn’t that passionate about accounting and finance – from that perspective. I love the field of personal development and finance, building a financial future and understanding the mechanics, tools and ways to portray it.

Now, every path you take shapes you, and my solid grounding in finance has stood me very well and I’m grateful for it. But as a career choice, as a 9-5 job, it really didn’t drive me.

I have been involved with online business since 2008 and pursued many different online business methods over the many years since. You name it, I’ve likely had some experience in it. That’s not to say that any of these business models were rubbish, or didn’t work. I just either didn’t have the drive for them in particular, or there wasn’t sufficient training or mentorship available to actively develop and progress in these industries. Or they just weren’t for me – we’re all individuals and we all have our passions, drives and interests and not all online business models will be suitable to you – that’s OK. The key is to finding the one that best works for YOU. That said, the one that I’ve found as being the most accessible is affiliate marketing.

For years I struggled, with mixed success, whilst continuing in the rat race. Then I stumbled upon my golden ticket – Wealthy Affiliate. I had dabbled with affiliate marketing in the past, but had never been able to crack it. But what’s not to like? No product to worry about, no returns or customer service issues. Find and promote products and services that you respect/believe in and earn commissions for each sale you refer. And if you have the right product, often it can be a recurring income!

I know how frustrating it is to have a goal but not have the appropriate tools available to get you there. Anyone can slog on, make mistakes, take course corrections and finally achieve a goal, but how long would that take? I knew that I’d rather learn from people who have spent the time and made the mistakes and could teach me the most efficient route. And that’s what I want to do for others, for you.

We all want to achieve a certain level of financial success, so that we can pursue the life and lifestyle of our own choosing, but not in 5, 10 or 15 years time. We want to achieve it far sooner, and spend our time actually enjoying the life we’ve created. I want to help you with that journey and remove the bumps in the road so that you can get there too, sooner rather than later.
